Frequently Asked Questions
“How much does a tattoo cost?”
Many factors go into tattoo pricing; sizing, placement, detailing, color, and style. Due to this I cannot quote pricing via the internet or phone. Please visit Neptune Tattooville in person for a consultation. The shop minimum is $60. Custom work is $140 an hour.
“How old do I have to be?”
Eighteen and over are welcome. Teens 16 and older may be tattooed but your parent must be with you during the entire process. Please bring your original birth certificate and matching IDs for both of you.
“Do you do piercings?”
While I personally do not handle piercings, Pete Pederson is the official piercer at Neptune Tattooville and would be happy to help you.
“When is the shop open?”
Please call the shop at 732.775.4242 to see my walk-in times for the week or visit in person to make an appointment.

“What should I bring to the appointment? What should I expect?”
I suggest eating at least a snack and being well hydrated, tattooing can cause a drop in blood sugar. We will be in a private room with no other artists for your comfort, you are welcome to have the door open or closed if you would prefer more privacy. The immediate area the tattoo is in may be shaved just as if you were having surgery! Most people have very minimal bleeding during the tattoo. However there will be blood and there will be ink, so do not wear clothing you cannot bear to get stained. If you haven’t already emailed or dropped off the reference material please bring that with you.
“How do I care for my new tattoo?”
Please read my aftercare guide here.
“Do I have to come alone?”
Of course not. If you think you may need support during the tattoo, a friend or family member is welcome to come sit with you. We also have a large lobby with seating if you want one or two friends close by but not in the room as you are tattooed. While the shop is staffed mostly by dads, please leave kids at home.
“How painful will the tattoo be? / I’m nervous, will it hurt?”
Needles will be piercing your skin, so probably. You know what you can handle better than anyone else. Every part of the body has different sensitivity and not everyone has the same pain tolerance level. Fatty and thick areas such as the upper arm, thigh, calf and pectoral area will hurt far less than thin skinned and boney areas such as feet, inside the elbow, ribs and the collar bone. In over a decade of tattooing only two people have not finished their appointment. It’s not nearly as painful as kidney stones, giving birth, or stepping on a Lego barefoot.
If you think listening to music will calm you and improve the experience bring your headphones. If you want to nervously chat with me throughout the application that’s cool too. If it’s your style to sit there like an Easter Island statue and have deep thoughts, have at it. Should you feel the need to move or take a break once the tattoo has started, no problem. But try your best not to move without letting me know first so I can pull the tattoo machine away from your skin, we both want your tattoo to be as perfect as it should be.
If you have any further questions or concerns feel free to drop a note via my contact form or stop by Neptune Tattooville to discuss in person.
